MEET OUR STAFF

Pastor Robert Jones Sr.

Pastor Robert Bernard Jones, Sr. is a multi-talented product of the city of Detroit.

He was born on the Eastside of Detroit and educated in the Detroit Public Schools.  He  graduated from Wayne State University, and studied for a Masters of Divinity at Detroit’s Ecumenical Theological Seminary.  However, Pastor Jones considers his greatest preparation for ministry was the eighteen years that he spent as an associate with his late Pastor and mentor, Rev. James Robinson, Sr.

The restoration of the neighborhood where Sweet Kingdom resides is important to Pastor Jones’ ministry.  Since 2003, Pastor Jones has worked to maintain ministries inherited from Pastor Robinson.  In addition, Pastor Jones has established new ministries including the establishment of the James and Rose Robinson Community Center that hosts programs such as food distribution, educational workshops, a Fab Lab, a music education program, and a maker’s space.

Pastor Jones is often invited to preach and present in churches and other institutions around the country.  He is a gifted musician, music educator and storyteller.  Rev. Jones was recognized in 2018 for his work with a Kresge Arts Fellowship.

First Lady Bernice Banks Jones

Pastor Jones has a great partner in both ministry and life in the person of Bernice

Banks Jones.  First Lady Jones was born in Havana, Alabama, the twelfth child in a family of fifteen!  She came to Detroit with her family at the age of 10.

First Lady Jones is a greatly gifted soloist, and her powerful voice has been featured in churches and festivals around the country; but perhaps her greatest gift is her ability to connect with people at their point of need.  She is always at center of efforts to honor and care for the church’s senior members, but she is loved for her support and fierce advocacy of the church’s youth.

First Lady Jones spent nearly thirty-seven years with DTE Energy working as an Office Administrator, before her retirement in 2018.  She brings a strong level of organization to everything that she does. The Pastor and First Lady actually met, fell in love and were married at Sweet Kingdom.  They have two children, both of whom play important roles in the Sweet Kingdom Family and two granddaughters.

Associate Minister Robert Jones II

Minister Robert Jones, II was born and raised in the culture of Sweet Kingdom.

He received his ministerial call in 2017 while studying music at Alabama A&M.

Minister Jones went on to complete a culinary degree at Schoolcraft College.

In addition to his work as a chef, Min. Jones is an accomplished graphic designer

and choir director.  He has worked for over four years as the Worship Director

and Leader for the Downtown Detroit headquarters of the Salvation Army
